Five things to know about Uconnect5
Posted on December 8, 2020
Customers and specialists have long appreciated the Uconnect system. It is often ranked among the best multifunction systems in the industry. Imagine if we could make it even better! That's what FCA is offering because starting in 2021, beginning with the Chrysler Pacifica, the Uconnect 5 will be in the spotlight. Here are five things you should know about this new system.
It's coming on the Chrysler Pacifica 2021
Uconnect 5 has been deployed on the Chrysler Pacifica 2021 for several weeks. The next vehicles to get it will be the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Ram 1500 pickup truck. These represent the three main brands of the automotive group; the Fiat 500 EV will be the first to obtain the system, but only in Europe.
It is a flexible system based on Android
Uconnect 5 uses an Android operating system that enables the platform's flexibility and adaptability, now and in the future. Users will be able to update the software like a smartphone with live updates for the latest map and system information. In addition to hardware updates, the system is more responsive when users press a button.
Up to six user profiles
Multiple occupants can take advantage of separate user profiles to set and save all their preferences, from seat positions and side mirrors to radio presets. These radio presets can also mix AM, FM and satellite radio stations. This eliminates the need for user-to-user discussions. Customization continues with four different layouts for the central touch screen and a host of widgets to put your favourite or most used applications front and center without having to scroll through other pages. The system can be configured from an 8.4-inch touchscreen to the FCA's largest 12.3-inch touchscreen.
It features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless technologies, as well as Alexa on demand.
Leave your key next to your phone in your pocket. No need to attach your phone with a USB cable. Up to two devices can be connected simultaneously via Bluetooth. If your home runs on Alexa, you can condition your home or vehicle remotely, for example, by turning on the house lights before stopping in the driveway or by heating the car before you leave. And there's no need to push a button. Just say Hey Chrysler, and the vehicle will respond.
You'll have to pay for some features
Uconnect 5 includes a three-month subscription to a 4G wi-fi hotspot, and users can connect up to eight devices. Unfortunately, this free service won't last forever, so you'll have to opt for a monthly subscription, like satellite radio!
